CAMBRIDGE, Ohio — Governor Mike DeWine recently announced a $1.75 million grant award to the Guernsey County Port Authority to mitigate mine-impacted lands at the D. O. Hall Business Center. The grant award from the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program was one of 81 announced for projects in 46 Ohio counties. The total funding for these projects totaled $86.1 million.

The Guernsey County Port Authority will use the state funds and $250,000 in local resources to conduct mine mitigation activities on a 9-acre parcel within the D. O. Hall Business Center. The project includes drilling 240 vertical boreholes and injecting approximately 9,000 cubic yards of grout to stabilize the site. The remediation will prepare the land for future industrial development. The Port Authority expects the project to be completed during calendar year 2025.

“We are grateful to the DeWine-Husted Administration for its support of this important project,” said Pete Mikula, President, Guernsey County Port Authority Board of Directors. “The project will create a shovel-ready site in the industrial park that will be ready to welcome to our community new investment and jobs,” he added.

Since the launch of the Brownfield Remediation Program, the Ohio Department of Development has awarded $636 million to support 626 projects in 86 counties.
