
WALNUT CREEK, Ohio — The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) received April 25, 2025, the Excellence in Tourism Award from the Eastern Ohio Development Alliance (EODA) at the organization’s annual meeting at the Carlisle Village Inn in Holmes County. The award is presented annually to recognize outstanding tourism activities in EODA’s 16 county region. EODA was formed in 1990 as a non-profit organization with its mission: EODA, through the cooperation of its 16 member counties, will promote the economic growth of the region.
Carroll County Commissioner Christopher Modranski, Belmont County Port Authority Director Larry Merry, Cambridge-Guernsey County Visitors and Convention Bureau Director Debbie Robinson, and Cambridge Guernsey Community Improvement Corporation Director Bill Arnett nominated MWCD for the Excellence in Tourism award.
The nomination noted MWCD’s economic impact in the region, including:
- More than five (5) million visitors annually
- 125 full-time employees and 200 seasonal staff
- $7.2 Million investments in 2024, including Seneca Lake Parkside Improvements & Splash Pad
- $9 Million investments planned in 2025
- $938 million in total regional economic output between 2014 and 2022
“We are excited EODA chose to recognize MWCD for the incredible impact it has in our region,” said Arnett. “Beyond its economic impact and great, family-friendly tourism offerings, the conservancy district plays a crucial role in environmental stewardship, covering all or parts of 18 Ohio counties”, he added.
