CAMBRIDGE, Ohio – The Guernsey County Planning Commission, in cooperation with Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service, will host a public engagement meeting as part of the process to develop an updated County Comprehensive Strategic Plan. The event is open to the public and will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm, Tuesday, August 20, at 627 Wheeling Avenue, first floor conference room. At the meeting, attendees will review a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis, and then help determine priorities within the areas of industrial development, business investment, workforce development and housing. This project is funded through the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) University Center program and the Appalachian New Economy Partnership (ANEP), a program of the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the state of Ohio.
The Guernsey County Planning Commission last updated the county’s comprehensive strategic plan in 2021 with a document solely devoted to economic development (click here for PDF). The 2019 plan contained 12 elements: Education/Workforce; Agriculture and Open Spaces; Economic Development; Residential and Housing; Tourism/Cultural/Historical; Technology; Infrastructure/Transportation; Environmental Issues; Health Care; Social Services/Family Support, and Community Engagement (click here for PDF). The Planning Commission expects the current update will be used as a launch point for the next comprehensive strategic plan that will include additional elements.
